What Amazon's own policy says
Amazon's seller help page on drugs and drug paraphernalia lists prescription drugs among the products sellers cannot list. It does not name bacteriostatic water. The licensed vials carry an Rx only label, which is a likely reason real bac water does not appear. Source: Amazon Seller Central: Drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Spot the look-alikes
- "Sterile water" with no benzyl alcohol is a different product. Plain sterile water has no preservative (see bac water vs sterile water).
- Deionized water: the listing title we saw did not mention benzyl alcohol.
- Humidifier treatments and eyewash preservatives share the word bacteriostatic and nothing else.
- Vial cases and empty vials are accessories, not the water.
The 5-point check for any listing
- 10.9% benzyl alcoholThe page or label states the preservative and its strength.
- 2Sealed vial, clear sizeA sealed vial with the fill volume in mL.
- 3Lot report for the waterSterility and endotoxin results for the water itself, by lot.
- 4Price per mLDivide the price by total mL, so 10 mL and 30 mL compare fairly.
- 5Storage and datesRoom temperature storage, an expiry date and a 28-day open window.
